Inaugural Eco Fox Run at AMU Creates Ecological Awareness among Students


Aligarh : An innovative eco-fox run, combining the message of environmental awareness, ecological education and physical activity, that drew more than 150 participants was organised today morning by the Aligarh Muslim University’s Eco Club.
The inaugural run that began from the historic Strachey Hall and ended at the Cultural Education Centre (CEC) had five environmental education stations along the route, including one each at Victoria Gate and Maulana Azad Library.
Participants learnt about biodiversity, waste management, and carbon footprint reduction and student volunteers from the Environmental Science and Botany Department provided informative demonstrations at each station.
The event attracted a diverse group consisting of faculty members, students, research scholars, administrative staff and also the general public.
Earlier, the event commenced with a welcome address by CEC Coordinator Prof. Mohammad Naved Khan. He applauded the eco fox run initiative, emphasizing the importance of environmental education among the people. It was followed by the environmental pledge taking ceremony.
Mr. Mohammad Imran IPS, Registrar, AMU inaugurated the eco run and carried the banner alongside Prof. Anwar Shahzad, President of the Club and Prof. Mohdammad Wasim Ali, AMU Proctor.
Prof. Nazia Hasan, President of UDLC, Prof Badar Jahan, President, Fine Arts Club, Dr Danish Mahmood, President, Hindustani Music Club, Prof Kamlanand Jha, President, Drama Club, Dr. Fazila Shahnawaz, President, Film Club, and Dr. Ahmad Mujtaba, President, Club for Short Evening Courses were also present among others.
Following the run, participants engaged in ecological awareness talks at Wisdom Hall, CEC. The interactive session on sustainable campus initiatives generated substantial engagement, resulting in new sign-ups for the university’s green committee.
A digital registration system for the event and zero single-use plastics policy was adopted to sensitize the participants about the issues of the environment, enhance understanding of campus biodiversity and express commitment to reducing personal carbon footprint.
Ahmad Fahadullah, Secretary of the AMU Eco Club proposed a vote of thanks. The proceedings were conducted by Ms Andleeb Anjum.
