According IIT Roorkee:
“The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) witnessed the release of a groundbreaking study titled “Advanced Grid-Scale Energy Storage Technologies.”
The study was conducted by a team of researchers from IIT Roorkee, led by Prof. Arun Kumar and was unveiled by Shri BS Bhalla, the Secretary of MNRE. all this program took place at Atal Akshaya Urja Bhawan, MNRE, New Delhi on November 29, 2023.
What are Advanced Grid-Scale Energy Storage Technologies?
According to the research, the large-scale systems that store electrical energy within a power grid are known as Advanced Grid-Scale Energy Storage Technologies.
Also among the various energy storage solutions explored in the study, mechanical options such as compressed, flywheel, air energy storage, pumped storage hydro, and gravity storage are thoroughly investigated.
This is a very great innovation as these Advanced Grid-Scale Energy Storage Technologies can store energy and then supply it back to the grid at a more advantageous time.
For example, it can fulfill the gap or need for solar power or during a weather electricity generation is disrupted.
Some more example or benefit of Advanced Grid-Scale Energy Storage Technologies that IIT Roorkee are witnessing are as follows:
- Compressed air energy storage
- Thermal energy storage
- Li-ion batteries
- Vanadium redox flow batteries
- Pumped storage
About IIT Roorkee:
