IIT Kanpur Establishes a Centre for Engineering in Medicine: Click here for details

The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur has established a Centre for Engineering in Medicine. The IIT, Kanpur inaugurated the Mehta Family Centre for Engineering in Medicine (MFCEM). The initiative will promote innovation in the biomedical domain.
Rahul Mehta from Bhupat and Jyoti Mehta Family foundation has supported the establishment in a two day long event. The inauguration event took place on 6th November 2023. The initiative will help in research and innovation in the field of engineering and medicine.
The major topic of discussion at the symposium was Nano medicines and genome editing. These approaches will help in tackling several diseases, help in therapies, and understanding of how brain works in the case of diseases such as Alzheimer.
There were experts present in the symposium. They all give presentations featuring the benefits of combination of engineering and medicine. The major discussion topics were
- Research and analysis in the area of Molecular medicine.
- Research and analysis in the area of regenerative medicine.
- Research and analysis in the area of digital medicine.
Objectives
- The centre is responsible for promoting biomedical inventions.
- It will bring innovations in Nano- medicine and Genome Editing.
- Have a thorough study of the brain programming.
Experts
Professor Nitin Gupta is the co-ordinator of MFCEM. He said, the establishing MFCEM will empower the position of IIT Kanpur in the field of technology and medicines. It will bring more research opportunities. That will bring a global perspective for the same.
Dr ShamikSen, IIT Bombay said throws the light of importance of study of stem cells and their regulation by the physical microenvironment. Professor Jayandharan Rao from IIT Kanpur discussed about indigenous genes therapy technology.
DrShakarSubramanium from University of California addressed that the combination of engineering and medicine is crucial in present time. He is also the advisor of the MFCEM centre.
Professor S. Ganesh, Director IIT Kanpur addressed the need of engineering with biomedical innovations. He expressed his gratitude towards Mr. Rahul Mehta for taking this initiative.
Mr. Rahul Mehta has thrown the light on the need and importance of technological innovations with medicine. He mentioned that his foundation has worked for the betterment of healthcare and medical facilities in India. He said that the MFCEM and IIT Kanpur collaboration will nurture research and innovation in medicine and engineering domain.
