There are 1,904 universities in 108 nations and regions that are ranked in the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
Over 134 million citations from 16.5 million academic papers were evaluated for this year’s ranking, which also includes survey answers from 68,402 researchers worldwide. More than 2,673 institutions provided data, and we ultimately collected 411,789 data points from them, according to the website.
How are rankings determined?
A university’s overall score for a particular year is determined by adding its performance in SDG 17 to its top three outcomes on the other 16 SDGs. SDG 17 makes up 22% of the final score, while the other SDGs are each given a weighting of 26%.
This implies that, depending on their concentration, various colleges are evaluated using various sets of SDGs. An average of the total points from the previous two years is used to determine the overall ranking.
In the total computation, each SDG’s score is scaled so that the greatest score is 100 and the lowest is 0. This is done to account for slight variations in the scoring range for each SDG and to guarantee that universities are treated fairly for all SDGs for which they have given data.
We utilise these scaled scores to identify the SDGs in which a university has achieved very well; these SDGs may differ from those in which the university is rated top or has performed particularly well based on unscaled ratings.
The methodology sections for each of the 17 SDGs include information about their measures.
Within each SDG, There are Three Types of Metrics
- Research Metrics
- Continuous Metrics
- Time Frame
