Government teacher LEAVES canceled as BJP stages protest against Bihar teaching recruitment policy; Education Department on alert

According to the latest report, the Bihar government has canceled all teachers’ leaves for the following week. The district magistrates have also been requested by the Bihar education department to look into all state-run schools on Thursday in order to confirm teachers’ attendance.
“On July 13, all instructors in all government schools must be present and in attendance in full… According to a letter from KK Pathak, the additional chief secretary (ACS-Education), “strict departmental action, including suspension, should be taken against those teachers who are found absent during inspection on July 13.”
Additionally, the agency has requested that the district education officers revoke all teaching staff members’ one-week leaves. The letter, which was sent out on Wednesday, stated that permission (for leave) could only be requested directly from the ACS “in emergency situations.” The department did not state in the letters the justifications for the directives.
The opposing BJP, however, asserted that the instructions were provided to stop teachers from taking part in a state-wide demonstration it was organizing against the new recruiting policy. “The BJP will organise a protest march on Thursday over the new teacher recruitment strategy. The march will start from Gandhi Maidan and end at the state assembly’s entrance. To stop teachers from joining the protest, these instructions were given. This demonstrates the Nitish Kumar administration’s autocratic mindset, claimed state BJP spokesperson Nikhil Anand.
On July 11, candidates for teaching jobs demonstrated in Patna against the government’s proposal to abolish the residency requirement when hiring 1.7 lakh teachers, which would enable residents of other states to apply.
