CBSE CUET Orientation Programme: Enabling Schools to Assist In Navigating Through Examination Framework, Subjects And University Admission

As of late, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) organized an orientation programme for school principals and counselors undertaken to aid students prepare for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG). Given that the CUET becomes the key entry point for undergraduate placements in all central and allied universities, this program focuses on helping schools accurately channel information concerning examination structure, subject issues, study strategies, and university admission processes.

Priorities During The CUET Orientation Programme

1. Comprehension Of The CUET-UG Examination System

The recent program brought attention to the new CUET exam pattern which consists of three sections:

  • Section IA & IB (Languages): Tests proficiency in 13 Indian and 20 foreign languages
  • Section II (Domain Specific Subjects): Consists of 27 subjects (ex. Physics, History, Economics) within the NCERT Class 12 curriculum.
  • Section III (General Test): Tests logical reasoning, quantitative reasoning, general knowledge (optional for certain courses)

Mode of Exam: Most probably blended (online + paper-based for some parts)

2. The Tasks Assigned To Schools In Preparation For The CUET Examination

Principals and counselors were trained on:

  • Subject Selection Guidance: Assisting learners in selecting subjects which correspond with their preferred university courses (e.g., Science stream for Engineering, Humanities for BA programs).
  • Syllabus & Study Material: Endorsing NCERT textbooks for these instructions.
  • Mock Tests & Time Management: Promoting self-testing through sample papers and mock tests.
  • Mental & Emotional Support: Alleviating stress and anxiety related to exams through counseling sessions.

3. Admissions into Universities under CUET

Central Universities (DU, BHU, JNU, etc.) will continue to admit students primarily by the use of CUET score.

Some institutions are likely to use a hybrid system, combining CUET with Class 12 marks or having additional rounds (interview, practical examination).

Private/Deemed Universities (like JMI, AMU) are likely to accept CUET scores as well.

4. Study Plan & Preparation Tips

The orientation stressed:

NCERT should be the focus – Core concepts outlined in Class 12 syllabus are essential.

Working on the Past Papers – Familiarizes students with the questions posed.

Time Allocation Per Section – Sections include languages, domain subjects, and general test.

Keep Post Notification – The NTA (National Testing Agency) is the official body that should be monitored.

Why This Programme Matters

The introduction of CUET-UG for undergraduate admissions to the top universities makes this program necessary. Schools are now expected to help students choose paths wisely as they have a Central Role.

This orientation allows the school’s principals and counselors to:

  • Have answers to the questions involving CUET registration, syllabus, and marking scheme.
  • Counsel students on the subject choices that relate to their courses.
  • Give stepwise guidance on how to prepare in a way that enhances their scores for better results.
