One Health Trust, based in Washington, and the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani have partnered to offer a PhD programme in Data Sciences for Global Health. The inaugural cohort of the PhD programme will start classes in July 2023, and applications are accepted until March 31, 2023. The programme, which will involve rigorous fieldwork and data analysis, intends to educate graduates and postgraduates on contemporary global health concerns and cutting-edge research techniques.

Future students will receive advanced training in global health as well as proficiency in statistical, quantitative, and qualitative abilities through the programme, which is a full-time multidisciplinary degree. According to G Sundar, senior professor and director of BITS Pilani, “The rigorous research and data analysis expertise of OHT will aid to considerably boost data driven public health policy in the country and hence raise the levels of overall well-being.”

According to G Sundar, students will enrol in classes and carry out research at both BITS Pilani in Hyderabad and the One Health Trust’s Nimai Valley Center in Karnataka, which is scheduled to open in January 2024. “This programme is ideal for working professionals already employed in such organisations who would like to use data more effectively to advance their missions as well as students who are seeking new positions as public health data scientists in governmental, nonprofit, and for-profit organisations in the public health and biomedical fields. There is no age restriction and qualified candidates will be considered from all geographical, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. More than 65% of India’s total national research output was produced by institutions with government funding.
