AMU Vice Chancellor launches special issue of Aligarh Magazine 2023
Aligarh : The Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor Professor Naima Khatoon today released the special issue of Aligarh Magazine 2023, in the conference room of her office. Published under the aegis of the Department of Urdu of the University, the special issue is based on Aligarh’s contribution in the study of non-fiction.
AMU Registrar Mr. Mohammad Imran IPS, Proctor Prof M. Waseem Ali, Patron of the magazine Prof Mohammad Ali Jauhar, Chairman of the Department of Urdu Prof Quamrul Hooda Faridi, Prof Syed Sirajuddin Ajmali, Editor Syed Ikram Elahi, and members Bilqis Maqbool, Mohammad Saud and Aftab Ahmed were present on the occasion.
The Vice Chancellor said Aligarh has played a prominent role in the development of Urdu language and literature since the times of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, founder of the institution, who gave new direction to the style and content of Urdu prose and literature.
She congratulated the patron, censor, editor and editorial board members for bringing out a brilliant non-fiction collection in Urdu.
Registrar Mr. Mohammad Imran IPS congratulated the editorial team and expressed his fondness for literary satire and humor.
Earlier, Professor Mohammad Ali Jauhar, patron of the magazine shed light on the history of Aligarh Magazine. “This magazine is not only of the Urdu department but of the entire university which is published annually, and a student from any department can be its editor. The university started publishing the magazine in English and Hindi languages later”, he said.
Prof Jauhar noted that the current issue includes the contribution of writers brought up in Aligarh, in the genres of basic styles of Urdu prose, letter writing, biography, short essays, satire and humor, travelogue and sketch writing.
Prof Quamrul Hooda Faridi said Aligarh magazine has played a very important role in the academic and literary training of the students here at AMU.
Prof Syed Sirajuddin Ajmali also congratulated the magazine team for their dedication and hard work and bringing out a comprehensive issue.
