AMU to celebrate the Republic Day with fervour and enthusiasm as per tradition

ALIGARH : The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) will celebrate the 76th Republic Day with vigour and gaiety and week-long celebrations in this case will mark the anniversary of the day India’s Constitution was adopted in 1950. A meeting in this regard was chaired by the Vice Chancellor Prof Naima Khatoon to take the stock of the preparation.

The celebrations will begin with Republic Day Mini Marathon Race for university students (except visually challenged students) on January 19, organized by the University Games Committee, which will be flagged off at the Football Ground at 8:00 am. The race will be conducted separately for Boys and Girls and students of Class XII and above will participate in the event. The winners will be awarded by the University Vice Chancellor on the Republic Day at the Strachey Hall.

The Ahmadi School for Visually Challenged will organize a separate marathon for its students.

The student members of the Cultural Education Centre (CEC), along with other University students will organize an Eco and Green Campus Fox Run from CEC to Strachey Hall on January 21 at 10 am.

The Administrative Block Building, M.A. Library, Victoria Gate, University Polytechnic Auditorium, Bab-e-Syed and Arts Faculty building, Centenary Gate and AMU Teaching Staff Club will be illuminated in Tricolour on January 25 and 26, and a poetic symposium (Mushaira) will be organized by the Department of Urdu on January 25 at the University Polytechnic Auditorium at 6:30 pm. The Vice Chancellor Prof Naima Khatoon will preside over it and a number of local poets and those invited from outside will recite their compositions.

Before the flag hoisting on January 26, a Prabhat Pheri by secondary school boys will be conducted in the University campus at 8 am, while a similar Prabhat Pheri by girl students will take place within the Abdullah Hall premises.

The flag unfurling ceremony and a customary parade by NCC cadets will be held at the Strachey Hall at 9:30 am followed by the rendition of National Anthem. The National Flag will also be unfurled at the Administrative Block Building, Vice Chancellor’s Lodge, Maualana Azad (MA) Library, Faculty of Arts, all schools and colleges of the University, all offices of the Deans and DSW, all Provost Offices, Proctor’s Office and the Building Department.

On the occasion, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Khatoon will visit the University Health Service to meet the indoor patients and to distribute fruits, and saplings will be planted in the campus as a part of an on-going plantation drive.

Meanwhile, literary competitions such as Inter-School debates in English, Hindi and Urdu languages and essay writing, painting and Bait Bazi competitions will take place in various AMU schools and departments. Games and sports activities like Inter District Basket Ball, Volley Ball, Football, Badminton tournaments and literary and cultural programmes will also be organized during the week.
