AMU faculty members re-elected as office-bearers of IHC

ALIGARH : Prof Syed Ali Nadeem Rezavi and Prof Manvendra Kumar Pundhir, Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University have been re-elected as the Secretary and Joint Secretary of the Indian History Congress (IHC), while Prof Shireen Moosvi has been re-elected as the Vice President of the organization.

Prof Syed Jabir Raza has been re-elected as the Treasurer while Prof Irfan Habib and Dr Shamim Akhtar shall continue to remain on its Executive Committee as its members.

Prof Gautam Sengupta, the former DG ASI and a renowned Archaeologist, took charge as the General President from Prof Aditya Mukherjee.

Prof Rezavi informed that the election took place during the 83rd Session of the Indian History Congress held at the Punjabi University, Patiala, Punjab.

He said that the inaugural session was attended by Mr Harjot Singh Bains, Education Minister, Punjab, Prof Richard Eaton as a guest of honour, Prof Narinder Kaur Multani, Dean, Academic Affairs, Punjabi University, Patiala and Dr Sanjiv Puri.

He stated that the IHC session was marked by six simultaneous sessions dealing with ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary Indian history, history of countries other than India and archaeology; and included four specialized two-day panels on Punjab’s past and present, the Aligarh Historians Society panel on studying social history, the Urban History Panel, and the Dalit History Panel.

Prof SC Misra Memorial Lecture was delivered by Prof Yogesh Snehi, while Prof Seema Bawa, Dr Anjali Guhan Gulia and Prof Urvi Mukhopadhyay delivered lectures at the IHC symposium.

Prof Rezavi said that more than 885 papers were presented during the congress and around 1300 delegates participated in the three-day session of the IHC.

Prof Muhammad Idris, the Local Secretary, along with his team of young and enthusiastic volunteers and senior teachers, extended cooperation in organizing the event.
