Kanuru  : American Oncology Institute (AOI) in Kanuru, Vijayawada has successfully performed its first pediatric bone marrow transplant (BMT), marking a significant milestone in advanced Cancer Care in the region. The transplant was performed on a 12-year-old boy, Master Uday Vikas P, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Master Uday initially presented with neck swelling and was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. It’s a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system, commonly known as the body’s immune system, which defends against infections and diseases. After receiving three cycles of chemotherapy, the young patient underwent a bone marrow transplant. Today, he is in good health and under regular follow-up care at AOI Vijayawada Kanuru.

Commenting on this achievement, Harish Trivedi, CEO, CTSI-South Asia, said, “Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is a rare condition in children, yet it remains one of the most treatable cancers when managed with advanced therapies. In Andhra Pradesh, the incidence of pediatric cancers like Hodgkin’s Lymphoma highlights the importance of access to specialized treatment facilities. With this successful bone marrow transplant, AOI Vijayawada has demonstrated its commitment to bringing world-class Cancer Care closer to home. We are proud of this achievement, which reflects our mission to offer cutting-edge treatments to patients of all ages.”

Dr Sai Krishna Kolluru, Medical Oncologist, AOI Kanuru, shared insights on the case, “The treatment and management of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in a child requires a multidisciplinary approach and precise care. Master Uday’s case was particularly critical due to the complexity of the disease and the need for a bone marrow transplant. The success of this procedure is a testament to our expertise, advanced infrastructure, and the resilience of our patient. We are delighted to see him on the road to recovery.”

Mahendra Reddy, RCOO, AOI Andhra Pradesh Region, added, “This landmark achievement emphasizes AOI Vijayawada’s capability to handle complex pediatric oncology cases. Performing the first pediatric bone marrow transplant in the region is a moment of pride for our entire team. It reflects our ongoing efforts to expand access to advanced Cancer Care and deliver the best outcomes for our patients. We remain steadfast in our commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of those battling cancer.”

American Oncology Institute continues to set new benchmarks in Cancer Care, bringing hope to patients and families in Andhra Pradesh and beyond.
