AIIMS to REPEAL the interviews for Ph.D selection process

India’s one of the most reputed institutions All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) planned to opt out with a Ph.D. Interview. The Ph.D. will only be determined with the written test. AIIMS aimed to come at this point for a greater degree of lucidity in the Ph.D. Candidate selection process.
The administration has also suggested starting 40-50 PhD Institute fellowships at par with the Prime Minister’s Research Fellows (PMRF) scheme and allocating a budget of Rs 200 crore for the same. The necessary approvals will be received for the subject from statutory committees of the AIIMS and the Government of India.
AIIMS administration mentioned, “in order to advance the AIIMS’s reputation for high-caliber research and raise our position in the NIRF research rankings.” Additionally, it has come to light through the aforementioned conversation that an internal finance mechanism is required to boost the admission of deserving PhD candidates and grant Institute Fellowships. The selection procedure should be entirely unbiased, open-book, and based on written exams (MCQs and OSCE/OSPE).
These are a portion of the changes that the AIIMS administration proposed for the PhD selection and Institute Fellowship awarding processes on Tuesday. An office memo issued on Tuesday stated that during Dr. M. Srinivas’ interactions with the faculty, PhD students, and scientists at AIIMS New Delhi, it has been strongly suggested that there is an urgent need to reform the selection process for PhDs and the award of Institute Fellowships.
