AICTE Warns Institutions Against Fraudulent Calls: Key Dos & Don’ts

 Formfees 04/03/2025

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has issued a public warning regarding fraudulent calls from individuals impersonating AICTE officials, including the Chairman. These impostors are attempting to extract confidential information from educational institutions, universities, and colleges under false pretenses.

AICTE emphasizes that neither the Chairman nor any AICTE officer is making such calls. Institutions are advised to refrain from sharing sensitive information with unknown callers. In case of such incidents, AICTE urges institutions to immediately report the matter to the Assistant Director at 011-29581024 and notify their local police station, with a copy forwarded to AICTE’s headquarters at Nelson Mandela Marg, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi -110070.

This advisory aims to protect educational institutions from potential scams and ensure the security of institutional data

What AICTE Says About the Scam?

According to AICTE, neither the Chairman nor any authorized officials are making such calls. The fraudsters are misusing AICTE’s name to mislead institutions and possibly extract sensitive data or money. The AICTE has urged institutions to stay vigilant and follow precautionary measures to avoid falling victim to such scams.

Dos & Don’ts for Educational Institutions

Dos:

Verify Any Calls from AICTE – If you receive a call claiming to be from AICTE, verify the identity of the caller before sharing any information. AICTE officials do not request sensitive details over the phone.
Report Any Suspicious Calls Immediately – If you receive a fraudulent call, report it to the AICTE Assistant Director at 011-29581024 and also inform your local police station.
Inform AICTE in Writing – Send a copy of the complaint to AICTE’s headquarters at Nelson Mandela Marg, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi -110070 to help the authorities track these fraudulent activities.
Educate Your Staff – Ensure that your administration and faculty are aware of this scam to prevent accidental disclosure of sensitive information.
Use Official AICTE Channels – Always rely on official communication from AICTE via their official website (aicte-india.org) or official email for any information.

Don’ts:

Do Not Share Confidential Information – Never disclose sensitive details such as bank account numbers, passwords, or student/teacher data over the phone. AICTE does not request such information telephonically.
Do Not Make Payments to Unknown Entities – Fraudsters may ask for payments, donations, or processing fees in AICTE’s name. AICTE does not ask for payments over phone calls.
Do Not Trust Calls Claiming to Be from AICTE Without Verification – Always confirm through official AICTE contact numbers or emails before taking any action.
Do Not Ignore Suspicious Calls – Ignoring the scam could allow fraudsters to target other institutions. Reporting helps prevent further misuse.

Why is This Advisory Important?

This fraud alert is crucial as scammers may try to manipulate institutions for financial fraud or data theft. With AICTE regulating technical education across India, ensuring the authenticity of communication is vital for the security and integrity of educational institutions.

AICTE urges all affiliated institutions to remain vigilant and follow these guidelines to avoid potential scams.

In light of the recent fraudulent calls being made in the name of AICTE officials, it is essential to rely on authentic and official sources for accurate information. The attached document, issued by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), serves as an official notice warning universities, institutions, and colleges about these scams. The notice, dated 07.02.2025, clearly states that no AICTE official will ever make unsolicited calls demanding money or sensitive information. To verify such communications, always refer to AICTE’s official website (aicte-india.org) or contact their helpline. Staying informed through credible sources and reporting suspicious activities to local authorities and AICTE is crucial to prevent falling victim to such scams.
