AICTE Modifies Eligibility Criteria For Admission Of ‘gifted’ Students To Supernumerary Seats In Technical Institutions.

The conditions of eligibility for admission of “gifted” students to supernumerary seats in technical schools have been updated by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).
According to the modifications, applicants must now have a minimum of 50% in their Class 12 coursework to be considered for admission.
Additionally, candidates who have passed the state- or country-level entrance exam will receive an additional 40% weighting. Prior to this change, Class 12 eligibility requirements for students in the unreserved category were merely 45%, while requirements for students in the reserved category were 40%.
AICTE had said that two extra seats would be made available for students who are “gifted and talented.” Such pupils won’t need to take entrance examinations like the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), for example.
Those students will be recognised as talented students who have achieved one of the following: prizes at national or international level competitions; funding from government organisations to pursue projects; publication of high-caliber research papers in peer-reviewed journals; possession of Indian or foreign patents; registration of a startup; ownership of apps; or development of a recognised project.
A statement of purpose and three letters of recommendation must be submitted by students who are seeking for the seats. Data screening, interviews conducted by a state level committee, in-person discussions with subject matter experts, and a final interview conducted by a national level committee are all components of the admissions process. These seats will be offered by technical institutes that have been chosen based on their rankings and accreditations.
Qualification requirements for applicants for supernumerary seats
- The applicant must be an Indian national.
- Candidates must have earned at least 50% in the 10+2 (12th Std) level exam (as per the current educational model or an equivalent stream as per NEP 2020 criteria).
- Students who have passed the state- or central-level admission exam will receive an extra edge of up to 40%.
