AAP's Schemes Spark Controversy: BJP, Congress React To Delhi Govt Notices

A massive row erupted after two departments of the Delhi government issued public notices cautioning citizens against falling for “misleading schemes” launched by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party. The issuance of these notices adds another dimension to the ongoing tussle between the AAP and the bureaucracy, which comes under the control of the Lieutenant Governor. The Department of Women and Child Development, in a public notice in newspapers, said the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana does not exist and has not been approved by the Delhi government. It has urged citizens to refrain from sharing personal information with individuals or groups claiming association with the “fake scheme”, as it could result in identity theft or financial fraud. Similarly, the Health and Family Welfare Department has debunked claims about a non-existent “Sanjeevani Yojana”, which allegedly promises free healthcare for residents over 60 in Delhi hospitals. The notice advises the public to exercise caution and not be misled by fraudulent claims about free medical services. The notices come two days after Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Atishi kickstarted registration to give Rs 2,100 to eligible women under the Mahila Samman Yojana. The latest flashpoint, which comes weeks ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls, sparked a slugfest between the AAP and BJP leaders. The BJP has accused the ruling party of duping people, since the two schemes have not been approved yet.
