Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam today, July 29, to commemorate the third anniversary of the National Education Policy. The event, co-hosted by the ministries of education and skill development and entrepreneurship, will be an enormous opportunity to look back on the progress accomplished in relation to NEP 2020 and to set the direction for the future.
On July 29, 2020, the Indian union cabinet launched NEP 2020, which replaced the previous National Policy on Education from 1986 and brought about significant reforms. The educational system in India can be transformed thanks to this forward-thinking policy.
In the course of the ceremony, PM Modi will likely unveil a wide range of initiatives that are positioned to further the NEP 2020’s goals.

The National Education Policy has transformed the sector and given an impetus to innovation and research. It will benefit the youth for generations to come.”

ADVANCEMENT OF NEW ENGINEERING INSTITUTIONS
According to the NEP 2020, preference will be given to higher education institutions (HEIs) that provide programmes in multidisciplinary STEM subjects, based on the recommendations in the AICTE handbook. Moving forward, students must enrol in at least three core engineering courses. At present, there is the approval of 89 new engineering institutions.
IMPLEMENTATION OF INDIAN ANCIENT KNOWLEDGE IN HIGHER EDUCATION
The Union Ministry of Education (MoE) established an Indian Knowledge System division inside the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which lays a major emphasis on incorporating Indian knowledge in higher education courses.
Through “Indovation centres” that the AICTE hopes to create all over the nation, the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) projects will be carried out. Students can now receive credits under the National Credit Framework (NCrF) for having knowledge of the Vedas, Puranas, and other ancient Indian texts, according to IKS standards.
A 4-YEAR UG “HONOURS” DEGREE IS NOW BEING OFFERED
The NEP 2020 states, going forward, students will need to study for four years, as opposed to three, in order to earn a UG “Honours” degree, in a move to make higher education more multidisciplinary.
Students will get a UG degree in three years after completing 120 credits, and a UG Honours degree in four years after completing 160 credits. Concurrently with the four-year undergraduate programmes (FYUP), key institutions will continue to offer their customary three-year degree programmes. Students will also have a selection of entry and exit points.
PROMOTING THE USE OF REGIONAL LANGUAGES AS A TEACHING TOOL
Making medical and other technical course materials available in the local language is one of the major NEP 2020’s recommendations. In an effort to increase access to education, President Droupadi Murmu introduced engineering textbooks in Odia in November of last year.
The Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) made a similar announcement, saying that its first-year students will be able to take BTech courses in Hindi.
GUIDELINES FOR MULTIDISCIPLINARY FROM THE UGC
An important part of NEP 2020 is the transformation of HEIs into diverse universities and colleges. In this context, the UGC published a number of guidelines on multidisciplinary education, including the availability of online degree programmes, credit transfer through enrollment in the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC), and a number of other issues.
