3 colleges of Jharkhand, participating in V S Mallar Memorial Legal Aid Competition, 2023

3 colleges of Jharkhand including, National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi Institute of Legal Studies, Ranchi, and Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag, have participated in the V S Mallar Memorial Legal Aid Competition, 2023 which begun on July 3rd, 2023. The competition was initiated by the Ministry of Law and the National Law School of India University(NLSIU), Bangalore.

“Participating in legal aid competitions equips students with practical skills, expands their knowledge of social issues, and provides networking opportunities that can positively influence their legal education and future careers”, said Kumar Raushan, a 3rd year student of Institute of Legal Studies, Ranchi during a conversation.

Guidelines for participation in V S Mallar Memorial Legal Aid Competition 2023:

For the V S Mallar Memorial Legal Aid Competition, 2023, it is expected that all the key members of the participating institution’s team and the faculty coordinator actively engage in one or multiple activities of the competition. Additionally, the core team can be assisted by legal aid volunteers from the participating institution, and their contributions can be officially recognized and certified by the institution.

Marking strategy for the V S Mallar Memorial Legal Aid Competition, 2023;

The evaluation criteria for marking will include the following aspects:

  • Assessment of outreach efforts based on the number of schools engaged.
  • Evaluation of interactive measures and communication strategies implemented.
  • Conducting two or more legal literacy and legal awareness programs, with a requirement to show or project legal literacy through YouTube videos.
  • Submission of an executive summary that includes quantifiable analysis.
  • Distribution of legal aid materials to participants, including publications by CEERA, NLSIU, or materials prepared by the participants.

Speed Mentoring Program for V S Mallar Memorial Legal Aid Competition, 2023;

The speed mentoring program aims to foster legal awareness among children by facilitating a structured and interactive dialogue. The main purpose of organizing the speed mentoring program is to educate children about social issues that impact them, thereby disseminating legal knowledge to them.

According to the guidelines The speed mentoring program should be implemented in 3 to 5 schools within a designated village or urban area to create legal awareness. Each identified school will host a single session of speed mentoring lasting no more than 1 hour. Participating institutions need to select 3 to 5 schools that have students from 3rd to 12th grade and provide the list of selected schools to the organizers before conducting the speed mentoring. The participating institutions should also share the attendance list of students with their names and year of study.

The speed mentoring sessions will address various topics such as domestic violence, child abuse, child sexual harassment, right to education, child marriage, and rights of the elderly. The sessions can be conducted in English or the regional language used as the medium of instruction in the respective school.

Video recordings of the speed mentoring sessions will be made available, with each school’s recording limited to 15 minutes. The complete set of recordings should be submitted in MP4 format.
