How many seats are there in IIT
The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are self-governing public technical and research institutes spread throughout the country.
IITs are India’s best engineering institutes, and entrance to their BTech programme is exceedingly tough. The total number of BTech seats in all IITs aggregated is expected to be around 16,053 in 2021.
Each IIT is self-contained, although they are tied by a common council (the IIT Council), which is in charge of their administration. The Minister of Education is the ex officio Chairperson of the IIT Council.
There are 16,234 undergraduate seats available across all IITs.
IIT Rankings:
Around 20000 to 25000 people qualify, but only 10,000 applicants are selected to attend one of the 23 IITs. As the number of IITs grows, so do the number of seats available.
In the MHRD-NIRF 2021 rankings, eight of the 23 IITs are among the top ten. The MHRD-NIRF rating is based on five characteristics in generally are:
- Teaching and Learning Resources
- Graduation Outcome
- Perception
- Outreach and Inclusivity
- Research and Professional Practise
