Medical Education in Telangana

The number of medical seats in the state has greatly expanded over the past year thanks to the Telangana Government’s ongoing efforts in this area. Telangana has 6,040 medical seats, which gives students from economically disadvantaged groups an opportunity in realising their desire of becoming doctors. Telangana has gained sixth place on the list of states with the highest MBBS seats. According to a source, a local student with a rank of 8,78,200 has even been given a medical seat in the state.

The fact that Telangana has 19 MBBS seats per lakh residents, more than any other state, is significant. Because of a series of government actions, the state now has one of the best systems for medical education. The opening of eight new medical institutions in the state has resulted in an increase of up to 1,150 MBBS seats. Additionally, by offering more than 85% of B-category seats to local students, the reservation percentage for scheduled tribes (STs) was raised from 6% to 10%, allowing for the accommodation of more students.

It is encouraging that women are outperforming men in getting MBBS seats. In total, 62.98% of the 6186 seats will be filled for the 2022–23 academic year, including 62.68% of the convenor quota and 63.73% of the management quota. According to Health Minister T Harish Rao, who gave a thorough review of this development, the measures made by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao have helped Telangana maintain its position as the nation’s leader in medical education. “Due to the expense and effort, students must travel to far-off nations like China, Ukraine, Russia, China, and the Philippines to study MBBS in foreign languages. Today, however, Telangana now offers more options for doctors to further their studies in addition to parents receiving financial aid. People in outlying districts are also receiving medical care “According to a report, the Health Minister made the remark.
