China has started to issue visas for students who obtain permits from their Chinese colleges and universities to return to take up their studies. As over 23,000 students are reportedly stuck back home due to COVID visa restrictions. On Friday, the Indian Embassy in this country requested that they register with the mission in order to ensure that their consular needs would be promptly met.

But due to the covid-19 pandemic, it has been a while since both countries have stopped sharing their fights due to which even the students who have an approved visa are also unable to join the colleges to continue their studies.

Due to this issue of stopped flights students have started to take third-country flight routes or through Hong Kong The Indian Embassy in its latest advisory urged the returning students to register with the mission.

Following a two-year Covid-19 travel ban, more than 1,300 Indian students were granted Chinese visas to resume their studies. Out of 23,000 students now registered at various Chinese universities, predominantly medical institutes, the recent development, as reported by the Chinese foreign ministry, is a huge relief.

Tuesday, Liu Jinsong, director general of Asia Affairs in China’s foreign ministry, briefed Indian ambassador Pradeep Rawat on the developments of the above, meanwhile, The Medical Council of India’s FMG (Foreign Medical Graduate) Examination has a low success rate, and India recently issued a warning to students seeking medicine in China (MCI). Only 6,387 out of 40,417 students passed the FMGE exam from 2015 to 2021, resulting in a 16 percent pass rate, according to the Indian Embassy.

Interested students can register with the Indian Embassy or Indian Consulates in Shanghai or Guangzhou, also provided names of the officials and their contact details.
