IIT Madras
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), the nation’s top engineering school and greatest institution overall, according to the NIRF, has said that 2022 was a year of accomplishments. “Activities resumed in full force on campus during the year, two years following the pandemic. Additionally, Prof. V. Kamakoti was named the new director on January 17, 2022, the institute informed the media. Prof. Kamakoti recently said FE that IIT Madras was effective in addressing issues in 2022, which turned out to be a year of difficulty. “The institute’s students, staff, and faculty have worked to their utmost to gain the top spots in every element, be it emerging technologies, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, or intellectual property,” he added. “Returning to normalcy in the post-Covid-19 period.” However, programmes like “IIT Madras for All” and free online courses had the largest influence this year outside of the campus.
“A number of initiatives, including “Out of the Box Thinking,” were presented and made publicly accessible online, according to Prof. Kamakoti. 87 students from government and company schools were given admission to the institute’s BS programme as part of the “Anaivarukkum IITM” (ITM for Al project).
According to the institute, it will also upgrade its research infrastructure in 2022. In order to power an ambitious international endeavour to map the human brain at the cellular and connection levels, with an emphasis on high-resolution brain imaging, it established the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre. By producing unheard-of amounts of human brain data, scientific research, and technological tools, this centre hopes to establish itself as a leading research facility worldwide.
Researchers at IIT Madras also created an artificial intelligence programme that can forecast a person’s risk of developing cancer. The PIVOT is a tool that uses data on gene expression, gene copy number variation, gene expression, mutations, and changes in biological networks as a result of changing gene expression to produce predictions.
IIT Madras introduced the Interdisciplinary Dual Degree (IDDD) Master’s Programme in Electric Vehicles for the IIT Madras BTech and dual degree students to help students get ready for the next generation of transportation technologies. Additionally, the IDDD Programme on Quantitative Finance was just introduced (this course will be jointly offered by the departments of Management Studies, Computer Science and Engineering and Mathematics for BTech dual degree students).
