IIT Kanpur GATE 2023

GATE 2023: According to the guidelines, only candidates with a benchmark disability of 40 percent or more and physical limitations will be allowed to use a scribe.

There are new guidelines for conducting written exams for persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD) released by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. The notice is available on the official website at gate.iitk.ac.in

Guidelines state that only candidates with a benchmark disability of 40 percent or above and physical limitations can use a scribe. Only on advance request will a scribe be provided for people with blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected), and cerebral palsy.

The scribe must not be a candidate for a GATE 2023 test paper. According to Government of India (GoI) guidelines, if candidates choose to bring a scribe, the scribe’s qualification should be one step below that of the candidates taking the examination.

If necessary, PwD candidates can use assistive devices such as an abacus, braille slate, wheel chair, and so on. Those who wish to use these devices must arrange them on their own and bring them to the examination center. None of these assistive devices will be provided by the GATE committee.

Candidates with scribes may request compensatory time of one hour (20 minutes each hour of test) at a time for the three-hour GATE examination. PwD/dyslexic (similar learning difficulties) applicants with scribes are entitled for a compensatory time of 60 minutes, according to GATE guidelines. This compensatory time of 60 minutes will be offered automatically and must be verified in the server and candidate’s consoles.
